Data Protection

This option allows you to back up files and folders that are deleted, moved, or overwritten during a copy operation.

The following settings are available:

Do not back up any files or folders
Move files and folders from local drives to the Windows Recycle Bin
Move files and folders to a backup folder

Which data should be backed up?

All data to be deleted
All data to be overwritten
All data to be moved
See option 'Move source files to destination folder'.
All backup generations created using the 'Backup' copy mode.

Do not back up any files or folders

If this option is enabled, no files or folders will be backed up during a copy operation.

Move files and folders from local drives to Windows Recycle Bin

This option moves files and folders from local drives to the Windows Recycle Bin.
Please note the following before using the Windows Recycle Bin:

Only data from drives on the computer running AllSync can be moved to the Recycle Bin.
The Windows Recycle Bin must be enabled for the respective drive.
Check the Recycle Bin size settings to ensure sufficient space is available for backup.

Data will be deleted automatically and not moved to the Windows Recycle Bin:

If the Recycle Bin is full.
If the file is too large for the Recycle Bin.
If the file is located on a remote computer in the network.

Move files and folders to a backup folder

This option stores files and folders in a separate backup folder. This allows deleted or overwritten data to be restored if needed.

Backup Folder

Specify the folder where the data should be backed up.
Default format for the backup path: %SystemDrive%\AllSyncBackup\%P%.
Various placeholders can be used when defining the backup folder.
You can also specify login credentials such as username and password for the backup folder if needed.

Storage Path

Here you can select with which path the data will be saved in the backup folder. The following options are available:

Full path
The data is saved in the backup folder with the full path of the file – starting with the drive letter.
The path starting from the destination folder name
The data will be saved in the backup folder with the path starting from the name of the destination folder.

Example:

Source folder: C:\Work\Data
Destination folder: D:\Service\Work\Data
Backup folder: E:\Backup
File to be backed up: D:\Service\Work\Data\Text\info.txt

Storage path with option 1:
E:\Backup\D\Service\Work\Data\Text\info.txt
Storage path with option 2:
E:\Backup\Data\Text\info.txt

Subfolder

If the option Create subfolder in backup folder is enabled, a new subfolder is created each time the profile is run, where the data is stored. This enables continuous backup and access to older versions.
Default format for subfolder name: yymmdd hhnnss
Various placeholders can be used when defining the subfolder name.

Data Compression

With the option Compress files into a ZIP file, all backed-up data is moved into a ZIP file at the end of the copy operation. This feature is available starting with the AllSync Professional Edition.
Default format for ZIP file name: yymmdd hhnnss
Various placeholders can be used when defining the ZIP file name.

Backup Generations

With the option Create backup generations, you can limit the number of stored backups. This feature is available starting with the AllSync Professional Edition.
Two variants are available:

Limit by number:
Define a maximum number of backups. Excess backups are automatically deleted.
Limit by age:
Define how many days backups should be retained. Older backups are automatically removed.

Old backups to be deleted are determined at the start of a copy operation based on their creation date.

Important Note:
Ensure that only data from this profile is stored in the backup folder. Otherwise, unrelated data may be deleted by mistake.

Determining old backup generations

If 'Create subfolder in backup folder' is enabled, determination is based on the creation date of the subfolders.
If only 'Compress files into a ZIP file' is enabled, determination is based on the creation date of the ZIP files.
If 'Compress files into a ZIP file' and 'Create subfolder in backup folder' are disabled, files are saved with sequential extensions such as .0001, .0002, etc.

Placeholders

The following placeholders can be used for the backup folder path, subfolder name, or ZIP file name:

Note:
To ensure placeholders are interpreted correctly, regular text must be enclosed in quotation marks.
